TLILIC0004 - Licence to operate an order picking forklift truck
- Introduction:
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate an order picking forklift truck (LO) safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.
Order picking forklift truck means an order picking forklift truck where the operator controls are incorporated with the lifting media and elevate with the lifting media.
A person performing this work is required to hold an order picking forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL).
This unit requires a person operating an order picking forklift truck to:
- plan for the work/task
- prepare for the work/task
- perform work/task
- pack up
- Licensing/ Regulatory Information
Legislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit of competency.
This unit is based on the licensing requirements of Part 4.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and meets Commonwealth, State and Territory HRWL requirements.
The National Assessment Instrument (NAI) is the mandated assessment for the HRWL to operate the relevant licencing class as detailed in this unit.

- Target Audience
For those learners wishing to obtain their High-Risk Work Licence (LO) to operate An order picking forklift truck. This standard course is to suit beginners with very little exposure to order picking forklifts trucks. Also, for those learners that take a little more time to learn.
- Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
However, AUSright training has following entry requirements for learners:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Minimum Year 10 level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills (Alternatively a numeracy and literacy assessment may be required to ensure adequate resources are provided to the learner to complete the course)
In addition, the learner would require:
- Access to a computer (desktop, tablet, smart phone or similar) good internet connection to access self-paced learning component.
- Unique Student Identifier Number (USI)
- 100 points of ID
- Enclosed footwear
- High Visibility vest/shirt/jumper
- Delivery Information
This course is offered face to face as a standard course delivered over 3 days. This consists of 2 days of formal training and 1 day for assessment.
All learners must complete mandatory pre-course self-paced online learning component, including practice activity prior to attending face-to-face training. It is estimated the learners would require 20-30 hours to complete the required learnings and activities.
The face-to-face component consists of 3 x 6-hour days excluding breaks, the third day is for the supervised final assessment.

- Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, learners would be issued with a statement of attainment for TLILIC0004 – Licence to operate a forklift truck, and a High-Risk Work Licence (LO).
Learners are required to apply for an order picking forklift truck (LO) licence with SafeWork NSW.
