TLILIC0003 - Licence to operate a forklift truck for experienced operators’ course

Learners that have previous on the job experience operating a forklift may qualify for this two-day forklift licence course. You must have had previous practical/driving experience operating a forklift either in Australia or Overseas. On the day of the course, you will need to show the trainer your evidence/ability to operate the forklift truck to the required level of an experienced operator. If the required level is not evident then the learner will be instructed that this course is not suitable and further training will be required before assessment can be undertaken.

 

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to operate a forklift truck safely in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements. Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a HRWL licence to operate this plant.

 

Forklift truck means a powered industrial truck equipped with lifting media made up of a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachments that can be raised 900 mm or more above the ground but does not include a pedestrian-operated truck or a pallet truck.

 

A person performing this work is required to hold a forklift truck High Risk Work Licence (HRWL). This unit requires a person operating a forklift truck to:

  • plan for the work/task
  • prepare for the work/task
  • perform work/task
  • pack up

Legislative and regulatory requirements are applicable to this unit of competency.

 

This unit is based on the licensing requirements of Part 4.5 of the Model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulations and meets Commonwealth, State and Territory HRWL requirements.

 

The National Assessment Instrument (NAI) is the mandated assessment for the HRWL to operate the relevant licensing class as detailed in this unit.

For those learners who have previous forklift truck operating experience and need to obtain their High-Risk Work Licence (LF). Those learners that can show evidence/ability to operate the forklift truck to the required level of an experienced operator.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. 

However, AUSright training has following entry requirements for learners: 

  • Be at least 18 years old 
  • Must have previous forklift truck operating experience 
  • Must have above average reading and writing skills (There is no verbal option available for theory assessments)
  • Completion of all online material before attending

In addition, the learner would require: 

  • Access to a computer (desktop, tablet, smart phone or similar) good internet connection to access self-paced learning component.  
  • Unique Student Identifier Number (USI)
  • 100 points of ID
  • Enclosed footwear
  • High Visibility vest/shirt/jumper

This course is offered face to face as a standard course delivered over 2 days. This consists of 1 day of formal training and 1 day for assessment.

 

All learners must complete mandatory pre-course self-paced online learning component, including practice activity prior to attending face-to-face training. It is estimated the learners would require 20-30 hours to complete the required learnings and activities.

 

The face-to-face component consists of 1 x 6-hour day excluding breaks, the second day is for the supervised final assessment. Once assessment is completed the learner is able to leave.

Upon successful completion of the course, learners would be issued with a statement of attainment for TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck, and a High-Risk Work Licence (LF).

 

Learners are required to apply for a forklift truck (LF) licence with SafeWork NSW.
